Job Description

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for various communications and public relations initiatives for the Children’s Trust of Alachua County. This position supervises a Communications Specialist, monitors assigned projects, and creates, implements, and oversees CTAC’s internal and external communications and branding activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Public Relations

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies to promote CTAC’s mission, programs, and services.
  • Foster and maintain media relationships; manage media inquiries, prepare talking points, and coordinate staff interviews.
  • Research, write, and distribute press releases, advisories, speeches, and announcements aligned with organizational messaging.
  • Monitor media coverage and emerging issues to respond proactively and protect CTAC’s public image.

Content Creation & Distribution

  • Create and disseminate various communication materials, including newsletters, flyers, brochures, presentations, and promotional content.
  • Oversee development and publication of the CTAC Parenting Playbook and other parenting resources.
  • Produce and distribute the CTAC monthly newsletter and stakeholder communications.
  • Compile and publish news, updates, and event information for internal and external audiences.

Digital & Social Media Management

  • Manage and maintain CTAC’s digital platforms, including website updates and coordination with web designers.
  • Lead strategy and execution for social media across platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Monitor and respond to social media interactions, ensuring timely engagement and appropriate messaging.
  • Analyze and report on social media and communication efforts to measure effectiveness and inform strategy.

Leadership & Internal Support

  • Supervise communications staff, overseeing daily operations to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal departments on public and media relations best practices.
  • Support CTAC leadership and staff in public speaking engagements, creating presentations, talking points, and speeches.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with city, county, and state communications professionals.
  • Deliver a public education program to enhance awareness and understanding of CTAC initiatives.
  • Engage with community partners, stakeholders, and government officials through tailored communications.

QUALIFICATIONS  

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field
  • Three to five years of professional experience as a communications professional

Organizational Expectations

  • Participate in CTAC staff meetings, profession development and training, as instructed by your supervisor.
  • Participate in maintaining the facilities owned and/or operated by CTAC.
  • Abide by and promote safety practices that reduce the risk of injury and/or property damage and facilitate the well-being of participants, guests, staff and the general public.
  • Gain a working knowledge of and comply with appropriate CTAC personnel policies and rules for ethical conduct.
  • Report any potential, suspected or actual workplace violence in accordance with the policy described in the Employee Handbook.
  • Report any suspected or actual incidents of discrimination or harassment of CTAC participants, staff, volunteer, partners, or visitors in accordance with the policy described in the Employee Handbook.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly alternates between sitting for long periods of time when using computer and computer keyboard; physically moving around from department to department and out in the community. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. The workplace is a comfort controlled open office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When outside the office the work environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
